IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa State started day one of the Hawkeye Invite with a third place team finish that included multiple personal bests and a dominant team performance from the diving squad.
Day one began with a fourth place finish in the 200 yard free relay.
In the 500 yard free, Brinley Horras led the way for the Cyclones finishing in seventh in the 'A' final with a time of 4:56.55. Corrine Guist (4:57.09) and Sydney Jackson (4:57.34) secured second and third for the Cyclones in the 'B' final.
Emma Kuhn set a personal best in the 200 IM prelims securing a time of 2:03.55 and a place in the 'A' Finals where she finished in eighth. Fallon DeWitt found her footing in the 'B' final and placed third with a new personal best of 2:04.37.
Andie Quirke set a new personal best of 23.24 in the 50 free prelims before finishing in seventh in the 'A' final. Paige Hanley also set a personal best of 24.38 in the preliminary round.
In the 1-meter dive, the Cyclones placed in four of the top seven spots in the preliminary round. Joscelyn Faner led the group with a 273.45 score that won her first place and secured her first zone diving cut of her senior campaign.
The Cyclones had similar success in the finals with Lauren Kimball leading the way and securing first and a new personal best of 290.75. Farner placed third in the final with a score of 275.50. Ally Blumenfeld finished fifth at a score of 260.65 and Kate Mitchell finished seventh with a 255.05 score.
In the 'B' finals, Annie McCann finished with a score of 220.20, her best as a Cyclone.
Iowa State ended the day with a fifth place finish in the 400 medley relay to end the day in third place with a team score of 183, five points off second place heading into day two.
Day two of the Hawkeye Invite will feature eight events, including 3-meter diving, the 400 IM, and the first appearances of the butterfly, breaststroke, and backstroke in the invite.
