AMES, Iowa – Nayeli Gonzalez caps her historic season as an All-American, earning AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors the AVCA announced Wednesday. Gonzalez is the first freshman in program history to be named an All-American.
Gonzalez becomes the 15th All-American in Iowa State volleyball history and notches the 27th total honor. The outside hitter adds this honor to her 2023 accolades of AVCA First Team All-Midwest Region, All-Big 12 First Team, AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year, Big 12 Rookie of the Year, unanimous Big 12 All-Rookie Team selection and four Big 12 Rookie of the Week nods. Gonzalez also was named to three All-Tournament teams to begin her career.

The San Antonio, Texas native became the first ISU freshman to be named First Team All-Big 12 and second to earn AVCA All-Region First Team. Gonzalez was also the third Big 12 Freshman of the Year and fourth AVCA Regional Freshman of the Year for Iowa State. Earning four Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors, Gonzalez was the lone conference player to earn three or four and is the second Cyclone to earn four.
The rookie recorded her name as the leading freshman point scorer in school history totaling 409.5 while coming five kills shy of the kill record. Gonzalez had four 20-plus kill matches including one 30-plus. Gonzalez' total of 31 kills and 36.0 points in the win over No. 14 Kansas are school records against a ranked opponent and the highest of any match by a Cyclone freshman.
Gonzalez finalized her rookie year with 348 kills to lead the team, 224 digs, 47 blocks and a team-leading 33 aces. Gonzalez also put up 18 double-figure kill, seven double-doubles and five 20-plus point performances.
