"This year's schedule has a mix of some historic meets for our program and some new ones, including our first regular season home meet since 2012," noted Sudbury. "We have brought in a lot of new faces for the season as we look forward to hosting the largest Big 12 Championships ever at home with our four new conference members."
Rudolph added, "Our schedule is full of opportunities to compete against top-level competition. The early season Virginia meet will set us up nicely to return there for the NCAA Championships."
The Cyclone Preview marks the first regular season meet held in Ames since the Iowa Intercollegiate during the 2012 season. The meet will prepare Iowa State runners for the Big 12 Championships, also returning to Ames for the first time since 2018. In the past three seasons, both the Cyclone men and women have posted top-3 finishes at the conference championships. The women claimed the 2020 team championship while the men have posted three-consecutive runner-up finishes following a three-peat championship run that stretched from 2017-2019.
Iowa State will rely on a combination of experience and new faces to continue its historical success into the 2023 season. On the women's side Dana Feyen and Madelynn Hill return after representing the Cyclones at the 2022 NCAA Championships.
"We are returning everyone from last year's team with some exciting new pieces that will see our top-seven changing from meet-to-meet," Rudolph said.
For the men, Gable Sieperda returns after a top-75 finish at the 2022 NCAA Championships while Ezekiel Rop looks to be a key piece on the roster after narrowly missing a medal at the Big 12 Championships in 2022 with a fourth-place finish. The Cyclones are also excited to welcome several new contributors to the program.
Sudbury voiced his excitement to see his squad on the course, stating "September cannot come soon enough!"
Following the September 1st home meet, Iowa State will travel to Lincoln to compete at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational for the first time two weeks later (September 16th). The Cyclones will get a chance to see the 2023 NCAA Championship site on September 23rd as they travel to Virginia for the UVA Invitational. Iowa State hopes to continue its success at the national level after the men posted a runner-up finish in 2021 and the women finished ninth.
Returning from Charlottesville, the Cyclones will compete at Nuttycombe on October 13th for the third-straight season. Big 12 Championships will take place at Iowa State's Cross Country Course on October 28th while the NCAA Midwest Regional is set for November 10th in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The NCAA Championships follow a week later (November 18th) in Charlottesville.
