Iowa State will celebrate Cy's birthday at the BYU match, with fans being able to buy five general admission tickets for $15 at this link.
Friday will serve as the Breast Cancer Awareness match. As part of the Fan Fridays special, five general admission tickets can be purchased for $5 here. Also, all football ticket holders can show their Oct. 19 vs. UCF ticket at the Hilton Ticket Office to receive a complimentary volleyball ticket.
By the Numbers
2 – Pam McCune brought in her second 10-block match of the season at K-State. McCune had the first 10-block match by a Cyclone in five years vs. Illinois.
3 – Christy Johnson-Lynch is now three Big 12 wins away from holding the third most in conference history.
4 – Brooke Stonestreet totals four Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week career honors, becoming the fifth in program history to earn at least four. ISU holds 65, over double the amount of the next-highest total (31 by Texas and Baylor).
10 – Stonestreet moved herself into the all-time program top 10 now holding 1,258 career digs.
20 – The 2024 season marks Johnson-Lynch's 20th season leading Iowa State.
The 2024 Cyclones
Freshman Rachel Van Gorp put up a dominant performance in the battle with No. 24 BYU, recording her first double-double with 14 digs and 11 kills. It was just her second match playing as a front row hitter. The rookie also had her second five-ace match of the season.
Morgan Brandt had her fourth straight double-double and eighth of the season at Houston. Brandt currently holds 2,368 career assists, 101 from breaking into the top 10.
Iowa State battled on the road but suffered two straight five set loses at K-State and Houston while dealing with injuries. Faith DeRonde stepped up hitting a team-high 17 kills at Houston, topping her previous career high of nine. Freshman Rachel Van Gorp moved into an offensive role, hitting eight kills while totaling her 10th double-digit dig outing with 12.
Johnson-Lynch continues her 20th season leading Iowa State, a program she has transformed. Johnson-Lynch holds 378 career victories (.645 winning percentage), with 205 of those being Big 12 wins to rank fourth in all-time conference history. Iowa State totals 10 20-win seasons under Johnson-Lynch, including the past two seasons.
The Opponents
BYU will play at Hilton for the first time, and leads the series 2-0 after taking both wins in 2023 at Provo. Sophomore Claire Little leads the Cougars with 254 kills at 4.03 per set and a hitting percentage of .312. Little's total and average rank second in the Big 12 while Brielle Kemavor leads the conference averaging 1.35 blocks per set. BYU has met five ranked teams this season, including its last three matches. The Cougars swept No. 18 Baylor last week and took three Top 20 teams to five sets (No. 12 Oregon, No. 17 TCU, No. 19 Georgia Tech).
Iowa State leads the Texas Tech series 33-25, while Christy Johnson-Lynch holds a 31-6 record vs. TTU. The Cyclones have won three straight in the series and will also meet the Red Raiders Saturday, Nov. 16 in Lubbock. Mia Wesley is Texas Tech's leader in kills with 217 at 3.50 per set. In conference play, TTU picked up their victory in four sets hosting K-State.
