FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Rachel Joseph took down her own school record at the Tyson Invite while Cyclones tallied three top 10 NCAA season marks and four top 10 program marks as the Tyson Invite and Husky Classic began.
Sophomore Joseph lit up the track on her way to taking down her school record of 52.92 set last season at Big 12 Championships with her new best time of 52.05. Joseph's .87 second improvement on her record placed her fourth among the deep field of All-Americans, and now ranks ninth in the NCAA this season.
Sydney Willits made her mark in the invitational long jump, hitting an all-time personal best of 21-1 1/2 (6.44m). The mark moves the junior up to No. 3 on the ISU indoor list and ties the ninth-best mark in the nation. United States professional and 2018 NCAA pentathlon champion Taliyah Brooks won the event with a leap of 21-7 1/4 (6.58m).
The next changes to the program top performance lists came in the 3,000m at the Husky Classic, where Madelynn Hill and Janette Schraft each cracked into the top 10 racing in the invitational heats. Hill stopped the clock at 9:09.28, now the seventh-fastest ISU performance, while Schraft clocked 9:16.63, the new ninth-fastest time.
Cam Jones made a move up the national ranks to No. 8 in the weight throw with his season-best mark of 73-2 3/4 (22.32m), placing him second among the elite field at the Tyson Invite. Jones threw over 22 meters in four of the six rounds and remains ranking at No. 1 in the Big 12 this season. Daniel Norris just missed the weight throw final, placing 10th with 64-2 1/4 (19.56m).
In the women's weight throw, Kaitlyn Burson continued her outstanding season placing second with 68-5 (20.85m), less than two feet off her school record.
Sophomore Jack Latham qualified for the next round of 60m hurdles as he clocked the fifth-fastest qualifying time of 7.94. In prelims, Latham then posted 7.86, .02 seconds off his No. 6 ISU PR.
In the 3,000m at the Tyson Invite, all three Cyclones cemented PRs. ISU took sixth through eighth place with Kiki Connell leading the Cyclones with 9:32.63, a nearly eight-second PR, while Brenna Cohoon clocked 9:35.18 and Taylor Briggs 9:36.65.
