SAN JUAN, P.R. - Former Iowa State men's basketball player George Conditt IV has qualified for the Paris Olympics as a member of the Puerto Rico National Team. Conditt IV is a member of the 12-person team that recently won the San Juan Qualifier for the final spot in the 12-team Paris Olympics, which will take place July 26-Aug. 11.
Conditt IV is the second former Iowa State men's basketball player to qualify for the Paris Olympics, as his former teammate, Tyrese Haliburton, is a member of the USA Men's National Team. The pair played together at Iowa State in 2018-19 and 2019-20.Â
This past weekend at the qualifier, Puerto Rico went 4-0 to advance to the Olympics for the first time since 2004, where they finished sixth in Athens. In four games, Conditt IV averaged 10.8 points on 61.3 percent shooting. His 43 points scored was the eighth-most of all players in the tournament. He ranked eighth in the field in rebounds per game at 5.5.
As part of Group C, the Puerto Rico men will face South Sudan on July 28, Serbia on July 31 and the United States on Aug. 3 in the first round of the Olympic tournament. The 5-on-5 Olympic basketball group phase will take place in Lille, France, before the tournament moves to Paris for knockout and medal rounds.
