The 2024 Cyclones
Christy Johnson-Lynch continues her 20th season leading Iowa State, a program she has transformed. Johnson-Lynch holds 376 career victories (.646 winning percentage), with 203 of those being Big 12 wins to rank fourth in all-time conference history. Iowa State totals 10 20-win seasons under Johnson-Lynch, including the past two seasons.
Brooke Stonestreet led all Big 12 players last week averaging 5.89 digs per set, earning her Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. The now four-time Big 12 DPOTW had 26 digs at Colgate and 27 at Syracuse to now total 20 20-plus dig performances, the sixth most in ISU history.
Lilly Wachholz earned her spot on the Syracuse Invite All-Tournament team after a 21-kill performance at a .395 clip. Wachholz also had 15 kills (.480 hitting) at Colgate to total 36 at a hitting percentage of .429 through the week.
Morgan Brandt totaled her 2,000th career assist vs. South Dakota, becoming the 12th in ISU history to hit the milestone. Brandt currently holds 2,170, 45 away from holding the 11th most in ISU history. Brandt had double-doubles at both Colgate (53 assists, 12 digs) and Syracuse (51 assists, 11 digs). The setter also totaled nine kills, seven blocks and two aces through the two matches.
The Opponent
Iowa State enters the matchup on a four-match win streak vs. WVU, with the last three meetings resulting in Cyclone sweeps. West Virginia is led by first-year WVU head coach Jen Greeny who spent the last 13 seasons leading Washington State. WSU finished in the AVCA Top 25 the previous four seasons.
West Virginia ranks third in the Big 12 averaging 1.78 aces per set, with Cassidy Tanton leading the conference with 25 total (13th nationally). Tanton, a transfer from Auburn, ranks at No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 41 nationally with .51 aces per set. WVU's kill leader is also Tanton, totaling 172 at an average of 3.51 per set. WVU lost their conference opener at home 0-3 to Cincinnati.
