Cyclones Open Play In California

Ames, Iowa – Iowa State tennis opened its spring season on Thursday with matches against Kansas State in Palm Springs, California as part of the Duel in the Desert, hosted by Kansas.

The Cyclones and Wildcats picked up five wins each, with the Cyclones winning two of three doubles matches and the Wildcats winning four of seven singles matches.

In doubles, Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Cristina Ramos Sierra defeated the Wildcats' Sana Garakini and Tereza Polakova, 6-1. Julia Camblor and Valeska San Martin Ramirez also got a doubles win for the Cyclones as they took down Veronika Kulhava and Maria Santos, 7-6 (4). Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Suzanie Pretorius were defeated by Charlotte Keitel and Maralgoo Chogsomjav, 6-1.

In singles, No. 64 Kuearum took care of business against Keitel, 6-1, 7-5. Freshmen Camblor and Alberto Vilar were also victorious as they defeated Chogsomjav, 6-2, 6-3, and Polakova, 6-0, 6-3, respectively.

Ramos Sierra, Pretorius, San Martin and Gabriela Felix each fell in their day-one singles matches.
