AMES, Iowa – The Big 12 Conference announced two Cyclones as recipients of the league's weekly awards. Annie Hatch earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and Brooke Stonestreet picked up Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the student-athletes' outings against Texas and Texas Tech.
Iowa State continues to lead the conference in total Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors, now totaling 62 in program history. The next highest in the league is 27 earned by both Kansas and Baylor. Iowa State notches the 13th Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award of all time.
This marks the first time since Nov. 16, 2009 and third overall for Iowa State to earn Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week in the same week.
Hatch becomes the sixth Cyclone to earn Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week as this is the first of her career. Hatch previously earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week last season. The senior played a crucial role in taking down No. 1 Texas, hitting 14 kills in the five-set victory. Hatch hit seven of the 14 in the second set on only nine attempts (.778 hitting).
Hatch followed up that performance by setting a career-high .560 hitting percentage with 16 kills on 25 attempts in the sweep over Texas Tech. The Mesa, Ariz. Native ended three shy of tying the most kills in a three-set match in Iowa State history during the rally scoring era.
Stonestreet earns Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the first time of her young career and becomes the 16th Cyclone to earn the accolade. Stonestreet totaled 25 digs against Texas and 16 versus Texas Tech to average 5.13 digs per set on the week. The sophomore's 25-dig performance was the seventh of the season with 20 or more. Seven ties the highest match total in the conference.
The native of Olathe, Kan. totaled over 400 career digs in the Texas matchup. The libero also recorded a kill in both matches last week to notch five on the season.
Hatch and Stonestreet take on West Virginia tomorrow in Morgantown. The match begins at 4 p.m. CT and will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
