AMES, Iowa – Brooke Stonestreet has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. This is Stonestreet's second-straight week earning the honor.
Stonestreet becomes the second Big 12 player to repeat an award in back-to-back weeks. The other player is fellow Cyclone Maya Duckworth who earned two-straight Big 12 Rookie of the Week nods. Iowa State has now picked up six weekly league honors this season.
The Olathe, Kan. native leads conference matchups with 5.23 digs per set. As a team, Iowa State also leads Big 12 play with 15.49 digs per set.
The sophomore averaged a conference-leading 6.00 digs per set last week through the sweep against West Virginia and the four-setter vs. TCU. Stonestreet notched her eighth 20-plus dig performance this season against TCU as she tallied 24. Eight ties the highest match total in the conference. Also against TCU, Stonestreet served back-to-back aces in the fourth set as ISU went on to take the lead back and the victory.
Stonestreet returns to Hilton Coliseum tonight to take on Chicago State at 6:30 p.m.
