Cyclones.tv is the video production and broadcast arm of the Athletics Department. We have six full-time employees and employ 10-12 paid interns each year. We play a role in producing live telecasts of home sporting events on our Mediacom TV channel (in 500,000 homes and surrounding states) and our subscription-based video service.

We also assist our sports teams and internal departments with video content creation (both creative and journalistic styles) for recruiting, digital/website and social media. Cyclones.tv offers students who have experience with video a hands-on opportunity in various areas of video production within the exciting environment of Iowa State Athletics.

Duties

The intern will assist our video department in shooting/editing/producing video in the following areas:

- Quality video pieces for many of Iowa State’s 18 varsity sports
- Conceptualize, shoot and edit creative videos (recaps and previews) for home and away events
- Work with full-time staff to fulfill sport recruiting needs
- Cutting highlight melt reels from TV broadcasts and in-house videoboard productions after events
- Assisting sport programs and interdepartmental staff with video content creation
- Shoot and edit game footage and post-game interviews for most of Iowa State’s 18 varsity sports
- Travel with teams to select away contests to shoot video of athletic contests as assigned
- Work with motion graphic templates for various social media elements (matchup, team or individual stats)

- Work on TV production crew for certain live broadcasts. Positions include:
- Graphics
- Play-by-play and color commentary
- Sideline reporting
- Camera operator

Qualifications

- Must be a student enrolled in classes full-time at Iowa State
- Must be willing to work up to 15 hours a week in the office or covering events
- Position is PAID position, starting out at $8.50/hr and will increase based on quality of work and responsibilities
- Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and potentially over school breaks
- Must be a self-starter and have the ability to think creatively
- Strong verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure in time-sensitive, team-oriented environment
- Must be willing to travel (as assigned) to select away events when opportunity presents itself

Preferred Qualifications

- Preferably a journalism or design major OR interest or experience in video, creative/hype/cinematic video or broadcasting
- MUST have experience shooting with DSLR or ENG cameras
- MUST have experience editing in Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent editing program
- Experience with Adobe After Effects preferred or encouraged

Scholarships/Class Credit

- Two scholarships are made available during each academic year to two of our top students.
- There may be an opportunity for class credit for some students/majors.
