- Although 1971 was the first season that freshmen could compete, Nacin was expected to redshirt until a late-year injury shuffled the starters and he shocked many by advancing to the NCAA Championship match as a rookie
- Three-time Big Eight titlist, Nacin was named Outstanding Wrestler at the 1974 league championship
- Capped his career by defeating Iowa’s Greg Stevens, 8-4, to win the 1975 NCAA Championship and earn Iowa State Athlete of the Year honors
