AMES, Iowa - ISU's Jen Bice fanned five batters and gave up four hits en route to a 2-0 complete game shutout of Drake Thursday afternoon at the Southwest Athletic Complex. A native of Woodward, Iowa, Bice hurled her first shut out of her career to raise her season record to 9-8. This is Iowa State's third shutout of the season. Senior Cinnamon Gooding went 2-of-3 with one RBI as the Cyclones improved to 16-25 overall and 3-12 in the Big 12.
Iowa State scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when sophomore Amberly Lessenger hit a two-out single and advanced to second on an error by Drake first baseman Mollie Murphy. Michelle Junod singled to left field advancing Lessenger to third. Lessenger scored on an error by Bulldog second baseman Jessica Jobes to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead. Cinnamon Gooding doubled to score Junod making it, 2-0. Lisa Frank, Jessica Polo, Erica Martinez, Junod and Lessenger each contributed a hit.
Iowa State returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. for a Big 12 showdown against Texas Tech at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
