AMES, Iowa -- Doak Walker Award semifinalist Ennis Haywood of Iowa State has been named a first-team all-Big 12 Conference running back for the second-straight season by the league's coaches. Davenport's Marcel Howard was a third-team all-league selection in the offensive line, Bagley's Jordan Carstens earned third-team honors at defensive tackle and strong safety Adam Runk also earned third-team all-league recognition.
Haywood, who has rushed for 1,098 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, led the Big 12 with 1,237 yards in 2000. The seventh Iowa State back to rush for more than 1,000 yards in at least two seasons, he ranks fifth on the all-time Cyclone career rushing list with 2,791 yards. He is fourth on the career all-purpose list with 3,397 yards. Iowa State is 12-0 over the past three seasons when Haywood tops 100 yards rushing.
Howard has started 29 career games, including 21 the past two seasons. The left tackle has blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher in each of his four campaigns. Carstens is fourth on the team with 71 tackles and has earned CoSIDA academic first-team all-district honors. Runk, whose diving deflection in the final seconds secured a 20-14 victory at Missouri, has 74 tackles, two sacks and three interceptions while breaking up seven passes this fall.
Earning all-Big 12 honorable mention from the league's coaches were tight end Mike Banks of Ogden, wide receivers Craig Campbell and Lane Danielsen, a Dike native. Cyclone quarterback Seneca Wallace was an honorable mention selection along with linebacker Jeremy Loyd and punter Tony Yelk.
