AMES, Iowa -- Doak Walker Award semifinalist Ennis Haywood of Iowa State has accepted invitations to play in three post-season collegiate all-star games. The two-time first-team all-Big 12 Conference running back will play in the East-West Shrine Game Jan. 12 in San Francisco, Calif. The senior will also play in the Senior Bowl Jan. 26 in Mobile, Ala. and in the Hula Bowl Feb. 2 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
"We are happy that Ennis is going to get additional chances after our bowl game to show what he can do on the field," Iowa State head football coach Dan McCarney said. "He is richly deserving of these opportunities."
Haywood, who rushed for 1,169 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, led the Big 12 with 1,237 yards in 2000. The seventh Iowa State back to rush for more than 1,000 yards in at least two seasons, he ranks fifth on the all-time Cyclone career rushing list with 2,862 yards. He is fourth on the career all-purpose list with 3,468 yards. Iowa State is 12-0 over the past three seasons when Haywood tops 100 yards rushing.
