Iowa State's Paul Shirley Named to Academic All-District Team

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State basketball player Paul Shirley was named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District team selected by Co-SIDA. Shirley, a repeat selection from last year's team will be joined by Creighton's Ryan Sears, Montana's Jared Buckmaster, Missouri's Brain Grawer and Iowa's Luke Recker. These five individuals will represent the district as candidates for the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America Team.
Shirley, who owns a 3.67 GPA, is averaging 10.5 points per game. The Mechanical Engineering major has started all 26 games for the Cyclones this season averaging 27.3 minutes per game. The Meridan, Kan., native leads the team in rebounds with 182 averaging 7.0 per game.
