LOUISVILLE, Ky. ? The Iowa State softball team ended the 2004 Louisville Courtyard Marriott East Classic with a 2-0 loss to Kent State on Sunday morning at Louisville's Ulmer Stadium. The tournament was hosted by the University of Louisville. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 2-10 on the season. Junior Misty Kimura and freshman Ashley Killeen led the way for the Cyclones with a hit each.
Kent State jumped on the scoreboard right away, scoring a run right away in the first inning. The Golden Flashes added another in the fourth inning. Iowa State had two hits and one error compared to Kent State's five hits and one error. Freshman Jessica Quade and Killeen led the way defensively for ISU with 10 and six putouts, respectively. Killeen also had one assist. Freshman Katie Reichling pitched her second collegiate game on the mound and took the loss. She scattered four hits over seven innings while having seven strikeouts and zero walks. Kent State's Kate Leary struck out six ISU batters.
Iowa State will travel to Missouri to take part in the Southeast Missouri State tournament March 13-14. The Cyclones will take on Southwest Missouri State on Saturday, March 14, starting at noon.
