AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer coaching staff has landed the Big 12's second-best recruiting class for 2006, Soccer Buzz Magazine announced Wednesday. Soccer Buzz is an online publication devoted to women's collegiate soccer.
The Cyclones are coming off their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in addition to tying for second in the Big 12 regular season standings, the highest finish in school history.
Goalkeeper Ann Gleason was also given recognition, being tabbed as a Top-75 recruit nationally. The Stillwater, Minn., native is a NSCAA Youth All-American as well as a three-time club state champion and two-time Minnesota All-State.
The magazine will announce preseason regional and national rankings at a later date.
Texas A&M, the 2005 Big 12 regular season and tournament champion, garnered the top class in the conference according to the magazine.
ISU will open the 2006 season on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Notre Dame. The Irish were the 2004 National Champions but were defeated in the quarterfinals of the 2005 College Cup by eventual champion Portland, the same team that knocked out Iowa State in the first round.
