ISU to Face Missouri in Big 12 Opener

AMES, Iowa ? After a long winter break, which included a week long training trip, Iowa State's swimming and diving team returns to action this Saturday as they head to Columbia, Mo., for a dual meet with Big 12 Conference foe Missouri. Last year, Iowa State fell to the Tigers in Ames, 169-126.

The swimmers are coming back from a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where they spent a week training to prepare them for the final stretch of the year.

The Cyclones will look to senior Lauren Breunig and sophomore Marni Benson to lead the way for the swimmers. Breunig, a native of Mazomanie, Wis., has accumulated 14 first place finishes, while Benson has touched the wall first in ten races on the season.

The divers return from their training trip in Atlanta, Ga., and the Georgia Diving Invitational in Athens, Ga., where they captured six top-12 finishes in a very impressive weekend for the Cyclones.

The Cyclone diving team hopes to get strong performances from the diving trio of Haley Haynes, Tien Tran and Kali Fryklund. At the Georgia Diving Invitational, Haynes captured a third place finish in the 1-meter, while Tran earned three top-ten finishes, including a fifth place finish in the 1-meter. Fryklund also earned two top-12 spots to pace the Cyclones.

Following this weekend's meet, the Cyclones return home to Beyer Hall Pool for a Big 12 showdown with Nebraska. Results for both dual meets will be available at Cyclones.com.
