AMES, Iowa- While her Iowa State women's track and field teammates had the weekend off to rest, Cyclone hurdler Rebecca Williams was hard at work this weekend making a provisionally successful bid for a spot in March's NCAA Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
After missing the Adidas Classic on Jan. 30th in Lincoln, Neb., Williams and hurdles coach Scott Roberts made the four hour trip back to Lincoln for the Husker Invite. Williams clocked a time of 8.43 seconds in her preliminary run in the 60-meter hurdles. That effort, qualified her provisionally for the NCAA national championships.
While in the final run on Saturday, Williams clocked a time of 8.42 seconds, a season-best time, qualifying provisionally does not guarantee Williams a spot in the national championship meet.
The Yuma, Ariz. native opened the 2007 season with two stellar performances stealing the 60-meter hurdle title in the ISU Holiday Preview and the ISU Open but fell just short of the provisional time of 8.43. Williams will make a run at the automatic qualifying mark of 8.15 on Friday at the ISU Classic.
