AMES, Iowa ? Three members of the Iowa State men's cross country team were selected to the 2008 All-Big 12 conference cross country team. Senior Kiel Uhl, junior Guor Marial and sophomore Hillary Bor were all selected after their performance at the 2008 Big 12 cross country championship Saturday at the ISU Cross Country Course.
“It was great to see Kiel run that well as a senior, we are going to miss him next year,” head coach Corey Ihmels said. “Guor (Marial) and Hillary (Bor) are going to be our leaders the next couple years, and we are going to keep moving forward and build on what we were able to accomplish this weekend.”
This will be Uhl's and Marial's second selection to the all-Big 12 team, as the duo was selected in 2006 for their performances at the 2006 Big 12 cross country championship . This is Bor's first selection to the team.
To make the All-Big 12 cross country team, you must finish in the top-15 at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships. Marial finished sixth with a 8,000-meter time of 24:15.4, while Kiel Uhl finished in seventh place, only five seconds behind Marial. Bor was only two seconds out of a top-10 finish, finishing 11th with a time of 24:39.8. The field included 100 runners.
The Cyclones will next head to Stillwater, Okla. to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 15 where Iowa State will run against Iowa for the HyVee Cy-Hawk series.
