Clone Zone is proud to bring Iowa State wrestling fans a little prelude to this weekend's dual. For this week, we set the time machine for Feb. 23, 1986. Iowa was ranked No. 1 in the nation, riding a 36-dual winning streak. The Cyclones, ranked second nationally under first-year head coach Jim Gibbons, had only one blemish on their slate so far - a 25-9 loss to the Hawkeyes in Iowa City just five weeks prior. In that dual, Iowa State managed only one victory and two draws.
The regular-season finale featured decidedly different results. The two matches we bring you this week are at 118 pounds and 158 pounds. At 118, ISU's Perry Summit took the mat looking to avenge a 10-8 loss to Iowa's Matt Egeland. The 158-pound bout pitted ISU's Bill Tate against Iowa's Royce Alger. Alger beat Tate 11-7 in the first meeting between the two.
