AMES, Iowa ? The state's college football bragging rights will continue to be determined on the playing field for at least another decade after officials from Iowa State University and the University of Iowa jointly announced today a new 10-year agreement that extends the popular series through the 2017 season.
“It was very important to both Gary and me that our annual football series continue,” said Jamie Pollard, Director of Athletics at ISU. “I am glad we were able to work out an agreement that is mutually beneficial to both institutions. The Cy-Hawk football rivalry has provided tremendous excitement for the residents of Iowa and each institution's alums, fans and students.”
The agreement calls for the game to be played at Iowa State's Jack Trice Stadium in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. Iowa will be the home team in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016. All games will be played on the second Saturday of September.
Iowa leads the overall football series 36-19, but the Cyclones have won seven of the last 10 including last year's 15-13 decision in Ames.
The institutions agreed to continue to share 20 percent of the revenue from the sale of tickets to the event in the first five years of the new agreement. These terms are similar to how gate receipts were shared under the previous agreement. The institutions also agreed that gate receipts in the final five years of the new agreement will be treated similar to more traditional home-and-home game contracts.
