CEDAR FALLS, Iowa? Two Amanda Nimtz second-half goals pushed the Iowa State soccer team to a 2-0 win over Northern Iowa Sunday to level the Cyclones' record at 2-2 and give the ISU soccer program its 100th victory.
Nimtz ended a stalemate 74:27 into the match off assists by junior midfielders Jordan Bishop and Lauren Odino to score her first goal of the campaign. The junior from Allen, Texas was able to spin her defender at the top of the penalty box before firing in a left-footed shot.

Nimtz doubled her season tally 8:43 later. After taking a long pass from senior midfielder Leslie Hill, Nimtz was able to get around a pair of Panther defenders in the corner before beating the UNI (0-5-1) goalie from a difficult angle. Head coach Wendy Dillinger felt the second goal was of high quality.
“It was a professional-level play,” Dillinger said. “It required a lot of technical savvy. Amanda played well the whole game as well. She created opportunities and was able to finish. It was good to see her utilize her ability and skill to help the team.”
The Cyclones statistically dominated the affair, holding a 22-5 shot advantage. ISU did not allow a Northern Iowa a shot in the first half and also had 10 shots on goal to three from the Panthers.
“The team is playing really well right now,” Dillinger said. “We played a lot of players today and everybody that stepped on the field contributed and this was a real team effort.”
With the shutout, junior goalkeeper Ann Gleason moves into a tie with Beth Chapman (2000-03) for the most in program history at 10. Gleason registered three stops in the match to push her career-record total to 245.
Dillinger feels the shutout illustrates the quality of play the ISU defense has exhibited lately.
“We shutdown their attackers very well,” she said. “We really limited the amount of opportunities in the run of play.”
Junior forward Elise Reid paced the Cyclones with six shots while Nimtz was one behind her at five. Reid and Nimtz each had three shots on goal for the team high in the match.
The Cyclones return to action Friday when they travel to Brookings, S.D. for the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State. ISU faces North Dakota State (2-2) Friday at 4:30 p.m. before squaring off with SDSU (2-2) Sunday at 1 p.m. All matches will be played the Fishback Soccer Complex.
