How it Happened
Iowa State was limited in the first half, as the Hawkeyes controlled much of the match. The game started slow, with only three shots through the first 20 minutes. Regan John took the first shot for the Cyclones with 13:12 on the clock but saw it blocked.
The Cyclones didn't see their second shot of the game until the 27-minute mark, when Morgan Goodman saw her show be saved by Iowa.
At the break, Iowa State and No. 11 Iowa found themselves deadlocked. The Hawkeyes held a 10-2 shot advantage and a 3-1 corner kick edge while the Cyclones had three saves to Iowa's one.
Iowa came out of the break hot, rattling off a pair of shots in the first five minutes and converting on the second to go up 1-0. Following a corner kick set piece, Abby Skiff found the ball at her feet after it exited a scrum of players and pushed it through to put the Hawkeyes on top.
Iowa clamped down the remainder of the contest, suffocating the Cyclone offense and allowing just two more shots. Iowa would wind up attempting 17 of its own in the half but still only came away with the one score as it went on to win, 1-0.
