LUBBOCK, Texas ? The Iowa State women's golf team saved its best for last. After falling behind the first two days of the Big 12 Championships, the Cyclones carded their best round of the tournament and propelled themselves into a tie for eighth place.
Iowa State fired the best round of the day (312) among all 12 teams, and finished with a three-round 952 tally. They were led Sunday by sophomore Victoria Stefansen's 5-over par 77, and Rachel Reed and Laurence Herman, who each fired 78s.
Oklahoma State held onto their commanding lead to win the team title by 13 strokes over Texas A&M. Oklahoma, Kansas and Kansas State rounded out the top five. Oklahoma's Kendall Dye tied with Texas A&M's Ashley Freeman to share the medalist honors.
Herman finished with a three-round 233 and received her best placing of the season, at 14th place. Rachel Reed was not far behind, as she finished the tournament tied for 15th.
The Big 12 Championships bring the 2008-2009 regular season to an end for Iowa State. The Cyclones return all of their golfers for next year.
