Tennis Posts Convincing 7-0 Win Over UNO

OMAHA, Neb. ? The Iowa State tennis team defeated the University of Nebraska-Omaha Wednesday afternoon 7-0. The Cyclones improved to 9-10 overall on the season.

“We played well and it is nice to get a win after the streak we have had,” Iowa State head coach Armando Espinosa said. “We played better doubles, which has been our goal this season.”

The Cyclones swept through singles play with a 6-0 mark. Iowa State sophomore Erin Karonis earned a solid win against UNO's Rachel Faulk, 6-0, 6-2. In No. 2 singles play, ISU's Tessa Lang defeated Traci Moklestad, 6-1, 6-3. Cyclone Marie-Christine Chartier earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mav Kelsey Haas.

Iowa State junior, Alyssa Palen, recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win over UNO's Samantha Thomas in singles play. In No. 4 singles, ISU's Liza Wischer shut down Heather Hottman, 6-0, 6-0. Cyclone Reka Kelemen also posted a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Mav Kelsie Olson.

Iowa State won all three doubles matches as well. ISU's doubles pair of Karonis and Kara Hickey defeated UNO's team of Faulk and Mokelstad, 8-2. Cyclone freshmen Chartier and Maria Fernanda Macedo recorded an 8-2 win over the Mav's pair of Hottman and Thomas. In No. 3 doubles play, Wischer and Lang earned an 8-2 win over Haas and Mary Lausten, 8-2.?

The Cyclones will play host to Coe College Saturday at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center in their final home match of the season and will celebrate senior day for Kara Hickey. Play will begin at 11 a.m.
