AMES, Iowa—The Iowa State women's basketball team returned to Hilton Coliseum with a resounding 87-48 victory over Minnesota State Thursday in an exhibition game. The Cyclones shot an impressive 54.2 percent (13-24) from 3-point range and held the Mavericks to a chilly 35.2 percent (19-54) from the floor.
Iowa State's hot performance from behind the arc was led by freshman Kelsey Harris who was 5-for-6 from 3-point land. Harris poured in a game-high 15 points. Fellow newcomer Lauren Mansfield also had a fine showing in her debut in front of the Hilton Coliseum faithful, as the junior point guard tallied 10 points, seven assists and four steals.
After allowing Minnesota State to shoot 44 percent (11-25) on field goals in the first half, the Cyclone defense turned up the pressure after halftime. The Mavericks would go on to shoot 27.6 percent (8-29) in the second half.
The Cyclones also held a sizable edge on the boards, outrebounding Minnesota State 45-19 on the night. Sophomore Amanda Zimmerman led the Cyclones on the glass, collecting a game-high nine rebounds.
Every Iowa State player got into the action, as every member of the 11-player squad scored.
The Cyclones continue their exhibition schedule with a matchup Sunday at 2 p.m. against Wartburg College in Hilton Coliseum.
