AMES, Iowa – Record crowds have been the norm at Iowa State football games all fall and the Cyclones will recognize that unprecedented and loyal support by hosting “Fan Celebration Day” against Kansas on Nov. 5. Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m.
Additionally, the Cyclones have targeted an attendance of at least 50,000 for the Jayhawks. With four consecutive crowds of better than 50k this year, Iowa State needs to sell 2,374 additional tickets to the KU contest to reach that level for the fifth time (which would be a school record). ISU had four crowds of more than 50k in 1981 and 1982.
“Our fan turnout has been spectacular the entire season,” Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. “We smashed our season ticket record and the current season average (54,570) would rank fourth on the single-game attendance list prior to this season. We're issuing a challenge to Cyclone Nation to help us reach 50k again!”
For “Fan Celebration Day” against the Jayhawks, the athletics department will …
• Award prizes – such as lunch with the coaches (including Rhoads), game-worn jerseys, iPads, a tent with tickets / food / beverage for the Oklahoma State football game (30 people), Cyclone basketball tickets, and other prizes, etc., - throughout the game;
• Offer $1 off the regular price of a Walking Taco; and
• Distribute 20,000 prints (size 11x14 suitable for framing) of a jam-packed Jack Trice Stadium. Those prints will be distributed (after the game ends) as fans exit and as supplies last.
Last week, Iowa State announced a “Four Pack” promotion for Kansas. Fans can purchase four hillside tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $40. Availability for that package is getting limited as several hundred have been sold since the win over 19th-ranked Texas Tech Saturday.
Single-game tickets for the Kansas game cost $60 for reserved seats and $10 for hillsides. Tickets can be ordered online at cyclones.com or by calling the Athletics Ticket Office at 515-294-1816 or toll-free at 1-888-478-2925.
“A full Jack Trice Stadium gives our players an extra boost of confidence,” Coach Paul Rhoads said. “Our fans have backed our team in record numbers at every game this season. On behalf of our football team, I say 'thanks for the support.'”
The Cyclones will close the regular season hosting third-ranked Oklahoma State on Friday (Nov. 18). Plenty of tickets are available for that game.
