AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's basketball team (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats (1-2, 0-0 AAC) 85-54 Sunday in Hilton Coliseum. In the contest, senior
Nikki Moody became the 26th player in Iowa State history to reach 1,000 career points.
How it happened…The Cyclones and Bearcats traded baskets for much of the first half and it wasn't until the 2:23 mark in the first that the Cyclones were able to pull away, grabbing a double-digit lead, 36-26, thanks to a 6-0 run. Iowa State would bring a 38-30 lead into the locker room with
Brynn Williamson and
Bryanna Fernstrom each grabbing 10 first half points.
Iowa State would break things open at the start of the second half, going on an 8-0 run to lead the Bearcats, 46-30 at the 18:08 mark. Iowa State would maintain a double-digit lead throughout the rest of the contest.
The Cyclones were led by Williamson, who scored 17 points off 6-of-10 shooting and netted four 3-pointers.
Iowa State shot a season-high 50.8 percent from the field off 33-of-65 shooting. Iowa State also knocked down 11 3-pointers, going 11-of-27 (40.7 percent) from deep.
