The women's basketball team jetted off to Cancun, Mexico to take part in a three-game tournament. Each day we will have a different student-athlete blog about their experiences in Cancun to keep you up to date. Enjoy!
Buenos noches from Cancun Cyclone Nation!
As I sit here writing in my hammock at the beautiful Hard Rock resort, it makes the 3 a.m. wake up call this morning well worth it. We rolled out of Ames around 4 a.m. and headed to our first flight to Chicago. Despite the lack of sunlight and sleep, everyone was ready for some to soak up some Mexico sunshine. Lexi even broke out her goggles to get everyone in the spirit. We arrived in Chicago with a short layover and a quick breakfast and we were off to Cancun!
When we arrived at the airport, we grabbed our bags and made it through customs to find our awesome bus driver and guide waiting for us. It was hectic and busy as all the travelers were trying to find their way, but luckily we have a lot of people to help us out and make things run smoothly.
It was about an hour drive from the airport to our resort. Our guide told us a little about the resort and local geography and we spent the rest of the time giddy about finally being here. We arrived at the hotel and were welcomed by refreshments and very friendly service. Soon we were shown to our rooms (this place is HUGE by the way) and were greeted with jacuzzi tubs, awesome views of the palm trees and ocean, and my favorite, the hammock on the porch--might even sleep out here.
After a quick stretching session on the beach with our strength coach, Pete Link, we had a little time to ourselves before heading off to dinner as a team. Claire and I decided to check out test the water and took a little swim.
We went to dinner at Toro, the steakhouse here at the resort. It was nice to relax and have a good meal before our busy day tomorrow! Stay tuned to see what adventure we have next! Nighty night!
