Cyclone Headlines
- The Iowa State volleyball team begins Big 12 play Saturday with a home match against Texas Tech. Action between the Cyclones and Red Raiders start at 1 p.m. inside Hilton Coliseum.
- The Cyclones had a bye in midweek, meaning their last match came last Saturday at home against No. 4 Nebraska. In front of a crowd of 3,810, the eighth-largest crowd in ISU volleyball history, the Cyclones fell in four sets.
- Ciara Capezio led the offense with 13 kills and 15 digs. The junior also had a double-double against UNI last Wednesday, posting 13 kills and 10 digs. Capezio, who is second on the team in kills (2.94 kps) and digs (2.77 dps), has five double-doubles on the season and 20 in her career.
- Cyclone libero Caitlin Nolan chipped in with 25 digs in defeat. Paired with her 29 digs in the sweep of UNI, Nolan was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, her first of the season and fifth of her career.
- Nolan, a 2014 AVCA Third Team All-American and the defending Big 12 Libero of the Year, leads the Big 12 and ranks seventh in the country with her 5.71 digs per set. Three of the five highest dig totals posted in the Big 12 this season have been recorded by Nolan.
- The Cyclones' leader on the offensive end in 2015 has been true freshman Jess Schaben. A native of Defiance, Iowa, Schaben leads Iowa State and ranks seventh in the Big 12 with her 3.31 kills per set, which she has earned at a .277 hitting percentage.
- In Iowa State's victory over Appalachian State, Schaben had one of the best matches by a freshman in Iowa State history. Schaben broke the ISU record for kills by a freshman in a match with 28, collecting those at a .397 hitting percentage. For her efforts, Schaben was named to the Cavalier Classic All-Tournament Team, and Big 12 Rookie of the Week.
- ISU has also received strong production from its middle blockers, as Samara West ranks third on the team with 2.32 kills per set at a .425 hitting percenttage which ranks second in the Big 12. Alexis Conaway has been good as well, recording her 1.56 kills per set at .359.
