AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (9-2) defeated Sacred Heart (3-8) 76-56 on Wednesday night at Hilton Coliseum behind a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double from senior guard Seanna Johnson.
Johnson went 9-of-17 from the field and also dished out four assists on the night. Junior Jadda Buckley chipped in 13 points and five assists, followed by nine points from Heather Bowe.
How it Happened
The Iowa State defense controlled the pace from the opening tip, holding the Pioneers to just eight first-quarter points on 4-of-12 shooting. The Cyclones also forced six SHU turnovers and dictated the the glass with a 13-6 rebounding advantage. ISU pulled down eight offensive rebounds on 12 missed shots in the period. After 10 minutes of action, Iowa State led 20-8.
After scoring the final five points of the first quarter, the Cyclones put 10-straight on the board to open the second period, amassing a 30-8 lead following the 15-0 run. Iowa State held Sacred Heart without a point for over seven minutes of game time. ISU put together another 10-1 spurt late in the half to go ahead 43-17 at the intermission. Johnson led the charge with 16 points and six rebounds in the half, followed by Buckley with 10 points.
The Cyclones had trouble finding their rhythm after coming out of the locker room and were held to just 15 points in the third quarter on 5-of-15 shooting. The Pioneers cut into the lead a bit, as Iowa State was also plagued by seven third-quarter turnovers, but still maintained a 58-38 advantage with 10 minutes to play.
Iowa State closed out the game with its bench crew, as all 13 available Cyclones saw action, closing out the 76-56 victory.

Seanna Johnson. The senior guard was outstanding once again on Wednesday evening, racking up 20 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Johnson was 9-of-17 from the field and also notched four assists.

*Iowa State extended its NCAA-record streak to 684 games with a made 3-pointer.
*Johnson's double-double was the 30th of her career and third of the season.
