AMES, Iowa - Some of Iowa State track and field's top student-athletes will make their season debuts this weekend in Arizona. Iowa State's multi-event competitors will take part in the heptathlon and decathlon at the Jim Click Shootout Multis on Thursday and Friday, hosted by the University of Arizona.
The Cyclones will also be in action Saturday at the Sun Angel Track Classic, hosted by Arizona State.
Iowa State's multi-event athletes,
Kaci Storm and
Emma Whigham in the women's heptathlon and
Taylor Sanderson and
Wyatt Rhoads in the men's decathlon, begin action on Thursday at 1 p.m. Central Time.
A lot of the focus will revolve around Sanderson, a 2015 Second-Team All-American in the decathlon. In his first multi-event competition since finishing second in the Big 12 Indoor heptathlon, Sanderson will be looking to cement his spot in the 24-man field at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June. Last season at the Mt. SAC Relays, Sanderson earned that with a career-best 7,360. Another goal Sanderson will be looking to atain is the Olympic Trials Qualifying Standard of 7,900 points.
