AMES, Iowa - Iowa State signee Ashley Joens was named to the Naismith Trophy High School watch List, which honors the nation's top high school player. Joens is one of just 50 high school athletes from around the country to make the list.
Joens, a 5-9 guard from Iowa City, Iowa, is a three-time first-team All-State honoree. She led City High School to three-straight Mississippi Valley conference championships, including a regional championship last season. Joens is also a three-time conference MVP. She has averaged double figures all four seasons, scoring 1,380 career points. Joens averaged 21.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.1 steals. She is currently ranked the No. 19 overall prospect in the Class of 2018 by ESPN's Hoop Gurlz and is No. 28 by ProspectsNation.com
A midseason watch list will be released in January, followed by a list of five finalists in February. The Naismith Girls All-America Teams will also be revealed in March.
