AUSTIN, Texas – No. 18 Iowa State had its five-game winning streak snapped at No. 13 Texas, 24-10, on Saturday night at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big 12, while Texas improves to 8-3 and 6-2 in conference play.
The Longhorns jumped out to a 17-3 halftime advantage, as UT quarterback Sam Ehlinger was 12-of-15 passing for 137 yards with one passing and one rushing touchdown. Texas opened the night with a nine-play, 80-yard drive that culminated in a 7-yard Ehlinger touchdown run to give UT a 7-0 lead.
Iowa State responded on its second drive, as Connor Assalley made a 40-yard field to capitalize on a 44-yard drive highlighted by Johnnie Lang's 14-yard rush into Texas territory.
Texas went 94 yards in 10 plays to open the second quarter, with running back Keaontay Ingram accounting for 61 of those yards. Ingram finished the drive with a 19-yard catch and run on a pass from Ehlinger to extend the lead to 14-3. Longhorn kicker Cameron Dicker drilled a 44-yard field goal with just two seconds left in the first half to make the score 17-3.
Texas' back-up quarterback Shane Buechele, who played the second half for the Longhorns, found Lil'Jordan Humphrey for a 27-yard touchdown with 36 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give UT a 24-3 advantage.
Tarique Milton set up Iowa State's lone touchdown of the night with a 47-yard punt return late in the fourth quarter. The return gave ISU first and goal at the UT 6, and David Montgomery punched it in the end zone two plays later on a four-yard scamper.
Players of Note…
Hakeem Butler hauled six catches for 99 yards, including a 37-yard reception.
Greg Eisworth recorded a team-high 12 tackles, including nine solo stops, as well as one forced fumble.
Marcel Spears had six solo tackles and two tackles for loss.
