AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser has added four athletes to the class of 2019 during the early signing period. Ryan Anderson, Julien Broderson, Caleb Long and Aden Reeves have all signed on to wrestle for Iowa State University.
"Overall, I am very excited about these four guys," Dresser said. "We hope to be adding a couple more quality seniors in the near future and this is a great start."
Ryan Anderson
Anderson was one of the nation's most sought out middleweights. FloWrestling ranked him the No. 27 overall recruit in the class of 2019 and No. 7 overall at his weight. While wrestling for powerhouse Bethlehem Catholic, Anderson is a two-time place-winner, including a state title in 2018. He is also a Super 32 champion and a third-place finisher at the prestigious Walsh Ironman Wrestling Tournament.
Dresser's Take
"Ryan Anderson is one of the very top wrestlers out of the state of Pennsylvania. I predict he will win a lot of matches at Iowa State in the coming years. It is also nice to get a blue chip PA guy on our roster. I think he can be the first of many. Ryan is a goer, he will be fun for the fans to watch."
Julien Broderson
Broderson is an in-state product, coming to Iowa State by way of Davenport Assumption. There, Broderson is a two-time state champion and is ranked No. 15 by FloWrestling at 182 pounds. He enters his senior season with a career mark of 115-17. He is a Fargo All-American, as well as a Folk Style Nationals All-American.
Dresser's Take
Julien Broderson is a great athlete. As a wrestler, I think he has a very high ceiling. He is somebody who pins a lot of guys and that is a great thing. I think Aden and Julien are the two best guys in the senior class in the state of Iowa right now. Adding Julien to this class was important for us. Julien wrestled for former Iowa NCAA Champion Pete Bush.
Caleb Long
Long is a middleweight out of Valentine, Nebraska. Long comes from a championship program in Valentine High School, who has won the past two Class C Nebraska State Wrestling Team Championships. During that time, Long has also captured two individual titles.
Dresser's Take
Caleb Long is a guy who reached out to us in the recruiting process. He is on track to win his third state title in Nebraska. We think he can help us out quite a bit in the 165 pound weight class area. He's very excited to be a Cyclone and we are glad to have him. Caleb wrestles for former Nebraska NCAA Champion Jason Kelber.
Aden Reeves
Reeves is an in-state athlete that received national attention during the recruiting process. He is ranked No. 29 overall in the class of 2019 by FloWrestling, and No. 3 at 120 pounds. Reeves is a two-time state champ out of Albia High School. He is a five-time Fargo All-American, including a runner-up finish in freestyle 2018.
Dresser's Take
Aden Has elevated himself into one of the top lightweight wrestlers in the nation. He is a high-energy guy who can score a lot of points, and is exactly the kind of guy we want in our lineup. He has trained consistently in the Cyclone Regional Training Center since our arrival. It has been fun to watch him improve and the sky is the limit for this guy.
