How It Happened
Iowa State opened the game with some shooting woes, only netting 1-9 three pointers in the first quarter, and that trend continued throughout the game with Iowa State hitting just 5-24 attempts. It was the Cyclone defense that was on display. The Cyclones recorded nine steals in the first half and forced 15 total turnovers.
Bill Fennelly's press was dialed up perfectly. Iowa State forced two 10-second violations and gave the Warriors fits all day bringing the ball up the floor. On the other side of the floor, the Cyclones protected the ball, only accounting for one first-half turnover.
The Cyclones led 45-27 at the half thanks to a 7-0 run to close out the first stanza that included holding Winona State scoreless in the last 2:30.
All 14 players saw time on the floor, with the bench doing much of the work in the second half. They kept up the pressure defensively, raising Winona State's turnover total to 25 for the game behind 14 steals. Nia Washington played just 14 minutes but nabbed a team-high four steals. Morgan Kane also provided some energy off the bench, totaling 10 points and reeling in eight boards in just 10 minutes of action.
