AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State track and field team will be back in action this weekend, with a small number of entries splitting up at a pair of meets. ISU will have 11 student-athletes competing in the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday, while
Zach Black will run the 800 at the Ward Haylett Invitational, hosted by Kansas State, on Saturday.
Live results will be provided for both meets, for the Nebraska Invite
here and for the Ward Haylett Invite
here. There will be no live video for either competition.
With the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships coming up in one week at Baylor, this weekend will give one more chance for some student-athletes to get some form, or increase their marks before heading to Waco next week.
For the women, the Cyclones send a strong contingent to Waco, with
Jalaiya Bartley,
Essence Henderson,
Christabel Okeke and
Emma Whigham having all posted all-time top-10 marks in at least one of their events this season, Henderson ranks in ISU's all-time top-10 for both the shot put and discus, both of which she is entered in this weekend.
On the men's side, a lot of the focus will be on Black's effort to get under 1:50 in the 800 and solidify a trip to the NCAA West Preliminaries at the end of May in Sacramento, California. The sophomore ran a season-best 1:50.58 to finish fifth at the Drake Relays last weekend, but sits 57th in this week's NCAA West Prelims performance list. Heading into the weekend, 48th place is at 1:50.01.
