Iowa State Rolls Past Texas Tech, 34-24

LUBBOCK, Texas – It was freshman Breece Hall that carried the Iowa State (5-2, 3-1 Big 12) running load against Texas Tech (3-4, 1-3 Big 12) on Saturday, rushing for 183 yards and a pair of second-half touchdowns as the Cyclones went into Lubbock and defeated the Red Raiders, 34-24.

146 of Hall's 183 yards came in the second half of the game.

Hall busted a 75-yard touchdown run on ISU's first snap of the second half to answer a Texas Tech touchdown. At that point, ISU led 27-10. The Red Raiders punched back though, scoring a touchdown to end the third quarter, cutting the Iowa State lead to 27-17 heading to the final period.

The Cyclones salted away the victory when Brock Purdy connected with Tarique Milton on a 44-yard pitch and catch to put the ball into Red Raider territory. On the ensuing play, Hall scampered up the middle for 30 yards and his second touchdown of the contest, putting the game out of reach.

The Cyclones jumped out to a 20-0 lead on the Red Raiders. The offense was cruising in the first half behind the arm of Purdy. Purdy connected on 19-24 first-half attempts for 307 yards. He found Charlie Kolar for a pair of touchdowns, as well as La'Michael Pettway.

Players of Note…
Brock Purdy's air attacked paced the Iowa State offense in the first half, throwing for three touchdowns and over 300 yards. He finished the game on 22-32 throwing for 378 yards and three touchdowns.

For the second straight game, Breece Hall eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground. This is the first time that an Iowa State true freshman has gone over 100 yards in back-to-back games. Hall finished the game with 183 yards, which is the third most by an Iowa State freshman tailback. Both of Hall's scores came in the second half, giving him five on the year.

Charlie Kolar continued to be one of Purdy's favorite targets. He finished the game with 79 yards and caught a pair of touchdowns, marking his first multi-touchdown game of his career. He also had a career-long reception of 49 yards.

Marcel Spears racked up 12 tackles, including 11 solo stops. It's his fifth-career double-digit tackle performance and a new career high for solo tackles in a game. He also added tackle for loss and a pass break up to his stat line.

*ISU is 10-0 in October over the last three seasons. Alabama is the only other "Power 5" school to be undefeated in October since 2017.
*Four-straight wins over Texas Tech, tying for the longest ISU winning streak vs. a Big 12 opponent (1996-present) with Kansas (2015-18…current), Kansas (2010-13), Baylor (1997-2004).
