AMES, Iowa – Brock Purdy amassed 359 yards of total offense and accounted for four touchdowns as Iowa State routed TCU, 49-24, Saturday afternoon at MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium. Iowa State improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 action, while TCU falls to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Purdy had a pair of rushing touchdowns and two more through the air to lead the Cyclones to 436 yards of total offense in the game. ISU tied the school record with six-consecutive games with 400 yards of total offense.
The Cyclones owned a 21-3 edge at the half behind a pair of Purdy touchdown passes to tight ends Chase Allen and Charlie Kolar, as well as a defensive touchdown on a 1-yard scoop and score from Eyioma Uwazurike.
On ISU's second drive of the third quarter, Purdy scampered in from 10 yards out to put the Cyclones up 28-3. After a TCU score, Johnnie Lang answered with a three-yard touchdown run to again extend the Cyclone lead to more than three touchdowns.
The Horned Frogs would make things interesting with a pair of quick touchdowns, but Purdy and Lang answered with back-to-back touchdown runs to put the game out of reach.
Players of Note…
Purdy completed 19-of-24 passes for 247 yards through the air, while also rushing for 102 yards on 12 carries. He is the first Cyclone quarterback since Joel Lanning in 2016 rush for 100 yards in a game.
