IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference announced its 2019 Football All-Academic team this afternoon, and 32 members of the Iowa State football team were selected, tying for the most in the league.
A total of 21 Cyclones earned first-team honors, including Steve Wirtel, who was honored for the third time in his career.
Other Cyclones to receive first-team recognition were: Chase Allen, Blake Clark, Jared Gescheidler, Conner Greene, Jake Hummel, Charlie Kolar, Matt Leo, Ray Lima, Brayden Narveson, Kene Nwangwu, Collin Olson, Peyton Paddock, Chandler Pulvermacher, Brock Purdy, Tucker Robertson, Mike Rose, Jared Rus, Derek Schweiger, Dylan Soehner, and Gerry Vaughn.
Eleven Cyclones received second-team honors: Landen Akers, Connor Assalley, Trevor Downing, Greg Eisworth, Anthony Johnson, Josh Knipfel, Will McDonald, Bryce Meeker, Re-al Mitchell, Zach Petersen and Joe Rivera.
First team members consist of those who maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
