AMES, Iowa – Iowa State tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Alex Golesh has been named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) 35 Under 35 class of 2019.
The AFCA 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute is a prestigious program aimed at identifying and developing premier, future leaders in the football coaching profession.
Golesh is in his fourth season at Iowa State, helping the Cyclones achieve unprecedented success on the gridiron. ISU has qualified for three-straight bowl games and appeared in the College Football Playoff Rankings in each of the last three seasons.
Iowa State's recruiting efforts have made dramatic improvement since Golesh began his tenure in Ames. The 2019 Cyclone recruiting class had the highest composite ranking in 247Sports history.
When Golesh entered his first season as the Cyclone tight ends coach in 2016, ISU had zero tight ends on scholarship with only six catches by the unit in the previous season.
Behind All-Big 12 performers Chase Allen (2017, 2019), Charlie Kolar (2018, 2019) and Dylan Soehner (2019), the ISU tight end group is one of the best in the nation. Kolar led all Big 12 tight ends in receptions (48), receiving yards (675) and TD catches (7) while earning Second-Team All-America honors by Pro Football Focus.
ISU's tight ends caught 72 passes for 949 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2019.
