AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior Bridget Carleton was selected as one of ten finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, given annually to the student-athletes that excel both on and off the court.
Carleton is just the sixth Cyclone in school history to earn a spot as a top-10 finalist, joining Hallie Christofferson, Chelsea Poppens, Amanda Nisleit, Lyndsey Medders and Angie Welle.
Carleton holds a 3.32 grade point average while majoring in Kinesiology. She was a member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team the last two seasons.
Carleton has participated in various community service projects during her time at Iowa State. The senior has volunteered at Healthy Streets Ames, assisted with holiday canned food drives, welcomed students at a local school back to class and helped shop for those in need during Christmas. This summer, the Cyclones also visited an orphanage during their foreign tour in Costa Rica.
On the court, Carleton has established herself as one of the best players in the country, most recently named to the Wooden Award Late Season Top-20. She was named an honorable mention All-American by the AP last season. Her performance also did not go unnoticed by league coaches as she was named a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First-Team the last two seasons.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be classified as NCAA Division I seniors and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 women's candidates announced in January. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through March 25. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipients will be announced during the 2019 NCAA Women's Final Four.
