AMES, Iowa - Iowa State has signed its first newcomer for the 2019-20 tennis season. The Cyclones will welcome Ting-Pei Chang to Ames from Taipei City, Taiwan.
Chang's career resume includes a career high ranking of 158 in the world ITF Juniors rankings. She owns a victory over No. 915 in the world Rio Kitagawa of Japan.
"Ting-Pei is a world class athlete and we are beyond excited for her to join our program," head coach Boomer Saia said. "She will bring a great amount of international experience into our tennis program and will be a crucial piece in this year's recruiting class. Kenna and myself can't wait to get to work with Ting-Pei."
Chang is a past champion of both the China Junior 16 and the Jeju International Junior Championships.
"I chose Iowa State University because it makes me feel very hopeful [I can continue to grow my tennis skills]," Chang said. "My future there will be very promising."
Iowa State hosts No. 8 Oklahoma State Friday at 3:30 p.m. and No. 30 Oklahoma Sunday at noon. Both of those matches are currently scheduled to be played at the Forker Courts in Ames, Iowa.
