Iowa State Honors Its Best In The Classroom

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State Athletics honored its best in the classroom Monday night in the Sukup End Zone Club at its annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet.
Cyclone student-athletes continue to excel in their academic work. In November, the NCAA released its Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data and Iowa State registered its best-ever GSR with a mark of 88%. That figure tied for second in the Big 12 and marks the fourth consecutive year that the institution's GSR improved.
These high marks were hit thanks to the work and dedication from the Cyclones student-athletes, as over 200 student-athletes were honored this evening for their scholastic accomplishments.
The following student-athletes were recognized on the All-Cyclone team for achieving the highest GPA in their respective sports: Charlie Kolar (football), Lachlan Barker (men's golf), Emma Ruehle (swimming & diving), Adriana Camber (women's basketball), Zach Timm (men's track & field), Annie Johnson (gymnastics), Alanna Campbell (women's golf), Michael Jacobson (men's basketball), Sami Williams (softball), Thomas Pollard (men's cross country), Karen Alvarez (tennis), Bailey Righi (women's track & field), Riley Behan (soccer), Jess Schaben (volleyball), Hank Swalla (wrestling) and Jasmine Staebler (women's cross country – captain).
The football and swimming & diving teams earned the Cyclone Serve awards for total community service hours accrued. The men's golf and women's cross country squads had the highest team GPAs.
The Norm Boyles Award, given annually to a faculty member who has made a sustained contribution to the welfare of Iowa State student-athletes, was presented to Rylie Carlson. Carlson is a Program Coordinator for the Student Financial Aid department.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Above and Beyond Award was given to Joanna Beaton for her exemplary support to Iowa State student-athletes. Beaton is the Student-Athlete Affairs Coordinator for the Office of Student-Athlete Development.
The Iowa State Letterwinners Club recognized Jess Schaben (volleyball) and Nick Weiler-Babb (men's basketball) as recipients of the All-Around Award. The award is presented to senior student-athletes in recognition of significant athletic contribution, academic excellence, leadership and participating in community service throughout their respective careers at Iowa State.
Riley Behan (soccer) and Sam Harms (football) earned Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarships from the Big 12 Conference. Each recipient maintained a GPA of 3.2 or greater and will receive $9,000 toward post-graduate education.
Members of the 2018-19 Farm Strong Squad were also recognized. Hank Swalla (wrestling- captain), Zach Timm (men's track & field), Riley Behan (soccer), Tripp Kinney (men's golf), Emma Whigham (women's track & field), Jasmine Staebler (women's cross country), Haley Ruegemer (swimming & diving), Adriana Camber (women's basketball), Thomas Pollard (men's cross country), Meghan Sievers (gymnastics), Amelia Grohn (women's golf), Michael Jacobson (men's basketball), Sami Williams (softball), Regina Espindola (tennis), Bryce Meeker (football) and Jess Schaben (volleyball).
The Office Student-Athlete Development (OSAD) also honored 32 newest members of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society for maintaining a 3.40 or higher cumulative GPA into their junior or senior year: Cole Anderson (football), Conner Greene (football), Charlie Kolar (football), Colin Newell (football), Kene Nwangwu (football), Quinn Sonntag (football), Chandler Diercks (men's track & field), Cody Durbin (men's track & field), Eric Fogltanz (men's track & field), Andrew Jordan (men's track & field), Zach Timm (men's track & field), Brady Jennings (wrestling), Hannah Carter (softball), Logan Schaben (softball), Adriana Camber (women's basketball), Madison Wise (women's basketball), Michael Jacobson (men's basketball), Laura Burns (gymnastics), Anne Johnson (gymnastics), Amelia Grohn (women's golf), Larkin Chapman (women's track & field), Adriana Kammerer (women's track & field), Gwynne Wright (women's track & field), Anna Andersen (swimming & diving), Alison Basel (swimming & diving), Dana Liva (swimming & diving), Emma Sass (swimming & diving), Keely Soellner (swimming & diving), Lehr Thorson (swimming & diving), Marin Daniel (soccer) and Kassandra Ginther (soccer).
