AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's cross country team will begin the 2019 season as the No. 1 team in the Midwest Region, the USTFCCCA announced Monday afternoon. This will mark the seventh time this decade the Cyclones have earned the No. 1 regional preseason ranking, and the second-straight season.
Amy Rudolph's women's team is led by defending Big 12 and USTFCCCA Midwest Regional champion Cailie Logue. The junior and team captain continued her strong season beyond cross country by earning a pair of Big 12 titles outdoors in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs to win 2019 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Women's Performer of the Year.
Joining Logue on this season's squad includes 2018 All-Big 12 runners in Abby Caldwell and Larkin Chapman. The Iowa State women have won the Big 12 and NCAA Midwest Region titles seven of the past eight seasons and will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships for an 11th-straight season, coming off a 15th-place finish last season.
Rudolph and the ISU women will open the 2019 cross country season at the Hawkeye Invitational on Friday, Sept. 6. Competition for the Cyclone women will begin at the Ashton Cross Country Course at 6 p.m.
