AMES, Iowa – Iowa State seniors Julian Good-Jones, Marcel Spears Jr., Bryce Meeker, Ray Lima, Steve Wirtel, Jamahl Johnson and Amechie Walker are among participants in postseason all-star games in the month of January.
Johnson and Walker played in last week's Tropical Bowl, and Good-Jones, Spears Jr., Meeker and Lima are prepping for games on Saturday. Good-Jones will compete in the East-West Shrine Bowl (St. Petersburg, Fla.), and Spears Jr., Meeker and Lima will participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl (Pasadena, Calif.) on Saturday (Jan. 18).
Wirtel will compete in the Reese's Senior Bowl on Jan. 25 (Mobile, Ala.).
The East-West Shrine Bowl is at 2 p.m. CT and the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will kickoff at 6 p.m CT. The Reese's Senior Bowl will begin at 1:30 p.m. CT the following Saturday. The NFL Network will televise all three games.
Good-Jones ended his career as a four-year starter on the offensive line, recording a school-record 49 career starts along the way. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native was a First-Team All-Big 12 selection at tackle in 2019.
Spears Jr. was a three-time All-Big 12 linebacker who started every game the last three seasons (39). The Olathe, Kan., native ended his career with 272 tackles, 24.5 TFL, four interceptions and two forced fumbles in his career.
Meeker, a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been a staple in ISU's starting lineup on the offensive line the past four seasons, tallying 34 career starts. Meeker was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection in 2018.
Lima was the catalyst in Iowa State's defensive turnaround, starting 33 games at nose guard in the last three seasons. The two-time team captain was a three-time All-Big 12 selection, including earning Second-Team All-Big 12 honors as a senior. The Jason Witten Man of the Year Award semifinalist and Los Angeles, Calif., native wrapped up his Cyclone career with 87 tackles and 10.5 TFL.
Wirtel is considered one of the best long snappers in this year's draft class. The Orland Park, Ill., native was ISU's long snapper the past four seasons. Wirtel was one of three finalists for the Patrick Mannelly Award for the nation's best deep snapper and twice earned first-team All-Big 12 honors from Phil Steele.
