AMES, Iowa – On the back of their second-best season opening score in program history, the Iowa State gymnastics team shot back into the RoadToNationals Top 25, checking in at No. 12. This is ISU's highest ranking since also being No. 12 after week one of the 2018 season.
The Cyclones opened the season with a 195.750 at the Arizona Quad-Meet, defeating then-No. 11 Western Michigan and Rutgers, while falling to hosts and then-No. 13 Arizona. The effort was ISU's best in a season opener since a 195.600 at the 2007 Cancun Classic, head coach Jay Ronayne's first meet in charge of the ISU program.
Iowa State's effort of 49.100 on the balance beam on Saturday has the Cyclones ranked No. 8 in the country on the apparatus. The Cyclones got four scores of 9.800 or better on beam, led by redshirt senior Sydney Converse's 9.875, seeing her ranked at T-25 on beam this week.
The Cyclones' highest ranked individual out of the first meet is junior Sophia Steinmeyer, whose 9.875 on the vault saw her check in at No. 16 on the apparatus rankings. The Cyclones are also at No. 16 as a team on the vault after a 48.975 over the weekend.
ISU is No. 13 in the country on the uneven bars after starting the season with a 49.075 at Arizona.
