LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the first time in Big 12 Championship history, the men's final finished in a tie with Iowa State and Oklahoma State deadlocked at 31 team points. After the tiebreaker was applied (head-to-head finish amongst the teams' top-five runners), it was determined that the Cowboys were the first-place finishers, with Iowa State finishing runner-up.
At the top of the individual podium was Iowa State's Wesley Kiptoo. For the third year in-a-row, a Cyclone runner claimed the individual conference title. Kiptoo finished 14 seconds clear of the field, crossing the finish line with an 8k time of 22:35.4.
The Cardinal and Gold boasted seven All-Big 12 runners for the second-straight season. It's the first time in Big 12 history that a team has had seven All-Big 12 performers in multiple seasons. It's just the fourth time in conference history that this has been done (Colorado, 1999) (Oklahoma State, 2014) (Iowa State, 2019 and 2020).
Thomas Pollard and Milo Greder made Iowa State history on Friday morning. The duo became ISU's first ever four-time All-Big 12 Cross Country performers. Pollard finished 11th individually in 23:42.1, followed closely by Greder in 12th with a time of 23:45.4.
Festus Lagat reached the Big 12 Cross Country podium for the first time in his career. He ran the 8k course at Rim Rock Farm in 23:26.1, which was good for a third-place finish. Chad Johnson made it three-for-three in All-Big 12 finishes at the conference championship, finishing seventh in a time of 23:31.7.
Mitchell Day finished ninth individually with an 8k time of 23:33.5 for his second All-Big 12 finish. Gable Sieperda turned in a great performance, climbing 10 spots in the final 4k to finish 14th individually in 23:47.5.
Jeffery Pedersen and Jared Schuckman rounded out the ISU lineup at the Big 12 Championship. Pedersen finished 39th in 25:07.3, ahead of Schuckman in 62nd with a time of 26:29.4.
